Interesting... $200 millie termination fee....Facebook's Instagram deal faces FTC scrutiny - latimes.com

Facebook's $1-billion purchase of photo-sharing site Instagram is under review by the Federal Trade Commission, according to the Financial Times.
The routine competition investigation could take six months to a year, the FT reports, which could delay the deal's anticipated second-quarter closing. Facebook had indicated in filings for its initial stock offering that it expected to close the deal by end of this quarter.

Deals for more than $66 million typically undergo greater regulatory scrutiny, under current antitrust law. Initially, the FTC and Department of Justice do a preliminary review to determine whether any antitrust concerns come up warranting closer examination.
The majority of deals reviewed by the FTC and Justice Department are allowed to proceed after preliminary review. However, companies have to provide more information if there's a second request.
Sources tell the Financial Times that the FTC has already started to gather data from some of the social network's rivals.
Although the deal may ultimately win approval, experts say that regulators will carefully scrutinize it because of the high price and profile of the companies.
Facebook warned investors on its pre-IPO tour that it faces a significant challenge making money from mobile devices, as advertising has lagged behind the shift to mobile devices. A significant impetus behind the play for Instagram was to bolster its mobile strategy.

If the deal is blocked, Facebook has said it would pay Instagram a termination fee of $200 million.

(Technology) More updates for Android X @Instagram for Android Update Brings New Feature

A shot I altered using the effect...

That is a picture of the screen where you will notice the addition.. It is something that Android users were missing before. I compensated for it by using different apps to make the effect but it is nice to have 'right there'. I will say that.

In case you haven't seen my tutorial on Android for Instagram with a few must have apps, go here. I think it will help you out some. I do all the things you see those with iPhones do and then some with my flicks. It isn't that hard. Trust me.

http://thewarehous.blogspot.com/2012/04/appsandroidiphonesmartphone-so-you-got.html

Again..my pics weren't blurry but I've 'heard' iPhone users 'crow' about their photos looking a 'certain kinda way'..This simple feature is a BIG PART WHY. @ the enhancements..For those who haven't seen tutorials like mine, this is why their pics looked the way they do and yours don't. This feature and the fact that they have had the app for a minute and know the 'other apps to use' to make their pictures stand out. Not because of their 'camera'. Don't be fooled outchea...lol

Anyhow, the feature is pretty dope.

Here's a complete review of the app for those of you who are still feeling your way around....

(Music) In Today's 'Where Are They Now?" The artist formerly known as Envyi now known as @sioux_lane

So I asked this question BELOW on Twitter right....*

 http://twitter.com/carolinaware/statuses/192233610915487744

The picture ABOVE was the response I got....From the artist. So now you know. The kicker? I heard this song below and HAD NO CLUE HER. (Obviously not from THIS LINK as it SAYS HER NAME and former name in it...) Hence me not ever looking her up on Twitter under that name. You GOTTA LOVE TWITTER.....(Awaits new music from Sioux Lane now...)

Who? @ some of you youngins asking me..THE GAL SANGING..'SHAWTY SWING MY WAY....SHAWTY SWING MY WAY...."

*It should be noted that most times I ask this question ONE OF MY FOLLOWERS answers and truthfully I am more than likely to be the one to POINT OTHERS IN THE DIRECTION OF ARTISTS ON TWITTER. So it was nice to have MY OWN QUESTION ANSWERED FOR ONCE.

(Words) #Instragram #Android #iPhone X Lies X Elitism X Hate and OUR need to fall in line with it...

You can ENLARGE THE PICTURE.. Or hit the link below to get to it..

http://instagr.am/p/JGsMnapTER/ elitism

Let me help you if you don't understand what I mean by 'our' first. So that there is no speculation. I'm talking about people of color. Yeah, that need DOES affect others but they aren't the ones coming from a point of view being 'stepped on', down trodden and just out and out disrespected. Why the hell does that matter? Glad you asked Sherlock! It is important because you would THINK that coming from such a place, we wouldn't fall into the habit of doing it to EACH OTHER under most circumstances. Yet, time and time again, we slip RIGHT INTO THOSE SAME HABITS. As I like to say....'Whitey taught you well...'

I mean we have cats out here claiming 'Team this' and 'Team that' over MATERIAL THINGS. It isn't just 'jokes' either. I don't want to hear that. Folks are out here basing their PERSONALITIES and their 'swag' on these things so don't hand me that 'I'm just joking nigga' shit. Nope. Ya'll are out here getting personal with it. Talking about if 'You don't have this'..you ain't shit. Meanwhile, you don't have LIFE'S BASICS down.

The kicker? SOME* OF YOU ARE BEING ELITIST ABOUT SHIT THAT YOU HAVE NO REAL KNOWLEDGE OF! Going by what your geeky 'white boy' who is SCARED TO DEATH OF YOUR ASS tells you and taking it as the gospel. Or my favorite, just being sheep and going with what you see said White People do. (But then want to get mad when they buy hip hop and say that those SAME RECORDS SALES FROM THE WHITE PEOPLE YOU ARE TRYING TO EMULATE all of the sudden don't matter! Interesting..) I probably know more about YOUR PHONE THAN YOU DO. Same with your car. Same with that 'fancy eatery' that you have claimed as 'your spot' that you don't want 'anybody else to eat at...'**

Back to the phone thing though, 'cause it is the latest 'issue'. The picture up top is from MY INSTAGRAM. (Follow or don't follow..IDGAF.. Do you..). I have a ANDROID THUNDERBOLT and no I don't hate Apple. The joints we used to have in school as a child? I had EVERYONE AS MY DAD FIXED COMPUTERS ON THE SIDE. (I'm also proficient in old archaic languages like Colbalt and Pascal..lmao) Point being is, I don't have an 'issue' with Apple. My issue is with you elitist ass cats with your misinformation and the fact you actually had the AUDACITY TO GET MAD ABOUT FOLKS GETTING INSTAGRAM. Shit is laughable B. Here's some of the bullshit I have heard some of you spew out for the last week. (I wish I would have actually favorited the tweets. I just wasn't that worried about 'em at the time but I remember 'em..)

You can see who said this here....https://twitter.com/#!/carolinaware/status/187648184561057793

Iphones have a better camera...

These 'Droid users and their shitty cameras pictures are messing up Instagram....

These 'Droid users are UPLOADING PICTURES LEFT AND RIGHT. Got my stream going HAM. Don't upload so many pictures.

Dear Droid users, don't upload pictures of yourself or I will unfollow you. @ too many self pictures...

#iPhone only @ those pictures that are edited JUST LIKE THE ONE I PUT TOP...

Instagram has become rachet since Android users joined...

(Chuckles) I have more but I SPOKE directly to those folks on the TL and saw they were just joking/we kinda talked that out. These though? Oh these niggas are SERIOUS ABOUT THIS. Every other tweet was about it. I can say I didn't call it though:

 http://thewarehous.blogspot.com/2012/03/instagram-for-android-shown-off-at-sxsw.html

As far the camera claim and the pictures:

I think we all knew that the launch wasn't going to be 'smooth'. The last two updates have shown it wasn't 'user error' (even I had said that jokingly...Knowing it wasn't.. I personally disproved that...) It was a system error within the app. Android users weren't even allowed to upload some pictures because they were 'too small'. They fixed that though and with that also fixed 95% of the blurry pictures. Even though I personally went around that issue by using PicsArt to upload pics or KD Collage as I explained in THIS POST..

 http://thewarehous.blogspot.com/2012/04/appsandroidiphonesmartphone-so-you-got.html

If you go to MY INSTAGRAM, the only blurry pictures are the ones I MADE BLURRY MYSELF as I didn't want you nosy motherfuckers to see certain shit. That's it. lol

Better camera? Stop that shit.. First of all, everyone isn't posting pictures they took with their cameras on their phones. Second of all....

http://www.pcworld.com/article/241955-2/smartphone_camera_battle_iphone_4s_vs_the_android_elite.html

Better screen? Yes. Better pictures? Nope. I mean we can get down to the brass tax of things if we are going spec for spec. Non removable batteries. No ability to add storage. No native Flash playing.. I won't bring up the other issues that Apple JUST NOW GOT TOGETHER just like Android has done. In other words, both phones have 'issues'/faults if you will. It is a matter of preference. You have to know the FACTS though. Stop going on 'speculation' and what your favorite 'rapper' is telling you is the better phone.. lol For real.

As far as the 'amount' of pictures:

Again, ya'll kill me. First you won't follow folks who 'don't have a lot of pictures' because you want to see what they are 'going to post' then it is 'You post too much.'.. I have one thing to say to that...

"The touch..the feel....the fabric of the hate...." - Set to the tune of the following video...

 <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VIrfR2UEycg?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always">src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VIrfR2UEycg?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360">

  <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/cayXJcf4LjY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen>iframe>

Make up your minds outchea folks. I know you had the app for two years now but you are quite hoemotional about this here shit. It is a app. Deal with it.

Outchea with the oppressive tactics that have been used against you.. Get up off that horse.

I already dispelled that 'iPhone' only quality bullshit. I can do it again though...@ the tricked out pictures.. Here you go...

UPDATE: I left out one....

Ratchedness...

THERE IS A WHOLE OTHER SIDE OF INSTAGRAM SOME OF YOU DON'T FOLLOW. I knew about it BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO LOG ON TO IT FROM MY DROID. All you have to do is type in Ware's Faves..I'd say 30% of the RECENT PICTURES came from gals who have Instagram (Yaris, Maliah, Sultry Simone, etc). THEY ALL POST THEIR PICS ON INSTAGRAM. Always have. They are iPhone users... All of them. Most video 'models', vixens, urban models or whatever you want to call them do. We didn't make this shit rachet. It already was.

*Can you read? I said some......Not all....some. Every person of color who owns an iPhone isn't like that. The VAST MAJORITY OF YOU ARE THOUGH...

** Like they can stay in business waiting on YOU to frequent their establishment...lmao As if. Trust me, they like your business but they weren't AIMING FOR YOU. You are icing on the cake baby! Believe that. When your fleeting tastes move on to the 'next big thing', they will be just fine.

(Apps/Android/iPhone/Smartphone) So you got Instagram for Android & your pictures are 'too small' huh? I have some good news..#instagram #android

I had that same issue. Couldn't find a solution. Looked EVERYWHERE. No dice. Here's how I got around it... PicsArt was the starting point as far as getting the collage thing down BUT the APP THAT HELPED ME CRACK THE 'TOO SMALL' CODE was KD Collage (Click the link..takes you right to the app store..Or click the QR codes below) ... I stumbled upon it awhile ago but never had a use for it. Until now. All this time the answer was sitting in my apps. Waiting to be used..smh (Which is a shame actually 'cause I have found OTHER USES FOR IT BESIDES INSTAGRAM NOW..-_-) You have to use the PRO VERSION OF IT THOUGH as it is this version that allow you to post LARGER PICTURES. The free version only does it in 'mobile phone' size which is the problem.*

Can I post DIRECTLY to Instagram FROM THIS APP? - You

Paid version (the one you need)

The free version if you want to 'kick the tires' and get familiar with it to see what it is all about..

Yep! You can post to a bevy of places actually. Facebook too. This app just isn't an Instagram add on. I post to Mobli, Facebook and Twitter from this app. I have even taken to posting SINGLE PICTURES from this app 'cause I can tweak it BEFORE I get to Instagram. (I suspect that is what some iPhones users are doing with their pictures to make them 'stand out'.) I now see why folks love the app so much once you know how to get add ons to it. I also see why 'folks who DO TAKE PICTURES' ARE ON THAT 'You aren't a photographer' ish too...lol I see both sides of it now. Both might be right. (Unless you are messing with pictures that you already took..)

Photo Grid works pretty good for those pictures that DO FIT that you have taken with your camera. I don't want to leave that app out. It is a beautiful app as well. I didn't list it first because it doesn't allow (or at least I have figured out how) to resize my pictures to be able to upload them to Instagram. It does do this though:

Features:
* High mode: put your photos in a list
* Wide mode: put your photos in a row
* Multi mode: No restriction on the number of photo
* Single mode: you can edit a single photo
* Load images from the gallery.
* Five group to choose.
* Two kinds of model choose photo.(thumbnail, watermark.)
* Tap or shake to rearrange photos.
* Edit grid, Swap, Rotate, Move, Zoom, Sketch.
* A lot of image templates.
* Border type changeable.
* Share your collage using: Twitter, Facebook, Gmail...
* Language support: English, Korean, Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese.
And,best of all...it's FREE!

I am probably not going to make a WHOLE OTHER POST if I find more stuff. I will just be adding it on here. (Unless I find out a TON OF STUFF...) So check back here.

I figured the techies would get started on a list.. Here's one.. Go to it and try it out. (I muddled my way through SEVERAL LISTS yesterday when NO ONE had an answer to my issue and bam...I found a solution... with help from my peoples in B-More Bew Radley @ her start iphone app list which gave me an idea of what I should be looking for in an app to do what I wanted to do..)

http://smashinghub.com/10-best-android-apps-for-photo-sharing.htm

*I am going to go out on a limb and say that pictures are compressed when they are transferred to your phone which is why they are TOO SMALL. If I am wrong, so be it. All I know is that the pictures are the RIGHT SIZE WHEN I USE THIS app. That I do know. I say this because almost ALL OF MY PICTURES I HAVE TAKEN WITH THE CANON are HUGE. Except in their state on my phone... They are too small to post on Instagram as they are on my phone. The only reason I can come up to is that they were compressed to fit on the SD card to begin with. The only other pictures I've had issues with are those taken with my old BB Storm. Lower quality cam so I understand those being 'unacceptable'. I don't have ANY ISSUES with pictures I have taken with the Thunderbolt that I try to put up directly to Instagram though. None.

(Smartphone/Apps) So..#Instragram has hit the Android Market you say??

Cats are out here salty too! I told you earlier last month it was coming though.. As you can see up top, I do have it..

In case you are having issues with finding it in the Play store/it says your phone is incompatible with the app and you KNOW IT IS (2.2 or higher..) , use the Play weblink..

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.instagram.android

Still having trouble? The good folks at Android Phone Fans have a video..(Damm where was this at when I was fumbling through this earlier? lol)

UPDATE: It was suggested by a good friend of mine that the following programs be used with Instagram. I am looking for their equivalents now..>>> ...Pic Stitch, Pic Frame and Nostalgio. Found a couple but none to solve the dreaded 'picture is too small' error most are getting. I'm working on it though. @ an answer. I have a few ideas...

I found an answer to the 'too small' picture thing....
http://thewarehous.blogspot.com/2012/04/appsandroidiphonesmartphone-so-you-got.html

Watch out for those angry iPhone users who are not happy about having their only real 'chip' over other phone users.

I will also say that for some of you who use some of the other picture apps of the World, you might not be all that 'impressed' by the features. It is a nice app but I suspect it is more about the social networking/secret society aspect that existed prior to today. You just 'couldn't get in' unless you had an iPhone. Even if it was from Walmart for $50. That changed today. Think of how BBM users used to talk about that feature and how everyone who didn't have it 'felt they were missing out'. @ exclusivity of it all. I tell you, these folks who develop these apps SURE KNOW HOW TO PLAY ON THAT. Even with the release of it on Android today. *

My username on there? There is a hint in the blog's title (it includes my username it would have been my username but.....) I warn you, I will probably be boring unless I am out at a concert or out and about. I would hope anyway.. @ my usage.

*Something else I find interesting in that most iPhone users are upset like it is a 'class issue'. Peep the price I gave for the one available at Walmart. Are they sure they want to make it about that? The other thing I found interesting is I see mostly folks of certain skin tones RIDING HARD for said class issue. Same folks who are upset when something they 'don't have' is used against them and they are ridiculed, excluded, shunned, discriminated against, etc, etc, etc... Just an observation. @ what behavior folks seem to learn from their oppressors. Yeah..you knew SOMEWHERE I WAS GOING TO go in WITH IT.

BlackBerry maker leaving consumer market, focusing on business | MyFOX8.com – Greensboro, High-Point, Winston-Salem News & weather from WGHP Television FOX8

TORONTO — Struggling BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd. said Thursday that it plans to return its focus to its corporate customers after failing to compete with flashier,
consumer-oriented phones such as Apple’s iPhone and models that run Google’s Android software.
The Canadian company said it was undergoing a comprehensive strategic review. Heins said he was open to selling the company, but “it is not the main direction we are pursuing right now.”
The company has long dominated the corporate smartphone market. Its BlackBerrys are known for their security and reliability as email devices.
RIM has sought to expand its appeal to consumers, but it has had trouble because the phones aren’t perceived to be as sexy as its chief competitors.
Apple sold 37 million iPhones in the last three months of 2011 — more than what RIM shipped in the past three quarters combined. RIM shipped 11.1 million BlackBerrys in the latest quarter, which ended March 3.
RIM also bombed in its efforts to produce a tablet computer to compete with Apple’s iPad. Among other things, the PlayBook received negative reviews because it launched without an email program and the popular messaging service BlackBerry Messenger. In December, the tablets that originally cost $500 were selling for $200, below the cost of making them.
RIM has been counting on improvements with its forthcoming BlackBerry 10 system, but that has faced multiple delays. BlackBerrys also lag iPhones or Android phones when it comes to running third-party applications. Touch-screen models that lack physical keyboards have largely flopped.
For that reason, BlackBerrys are even losing ground in the business world, as employees demand iPhones or Android devices over BlackBerrys.
RIM said it will focus its consumer efforts on targeted offerings that tap the company’s strengths. That includes devices that employees will want to buy on their own and bring to the corporate environment. The company was exploring partnerships and other opportunities for consumer products that aren’t deemed central. Those products could include software and features that are then incorporated into RIM’s own offerings.

Not entirely true btw...@ leaving. More like refocusing on their original bread and butter.  @ business world.

Instagram for Android shown off at SXSW, 'better than our iPhone app' say founders | The Verge

Oh really now? Uh oh...iPhones users are gonna be salty.. smh..I know how they get in their feelings and ish...

Instagram for Android shown off at SXSW, 'better than our iPhone app' say founders

instagram
Today at SXSW, Instagram's Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger told Alexia Tsotsis that an Android version of the app is coming "really soon." We've heard this for several months now, but it seems that the app is finally getting close to launch. On stage, Systrom pulled out a Galaxy Nexus running a prototype of the app, and flashed it at the crowd. He said, "it's one of the most amazing Android apps you'll ever see," and continued, "in some ways, it's better than our iPhone app." The app is currently in private beta, and the team hopes "to have it out to people really soon." During the session's Q&A, he added that the Android app is incredibly fast, works great on a range of larger screens, and has sharing functionality with Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, and other social networks.
Additionally, Systrom confirmed that Instagram has grown to over 27 million registered users, nearly double the 15 million announced back in December 2011. He explained much of the enormous growth came from the launch of the iPhone 4S, followed by Apple highlighting the app as App of the Year.

Pass it on to the cats who ask 'Why do folks still use BloggDevil's Advocate: 5 Reasons Why You Should Use Blogger Instead Of WordPress | BloggingPro

Devil's Advocate: 5 Reasons Why You Should Use Blogger Instead Of WordPress | BloggingPro

Since all Five reasons are why I still haven't used WordPress (I have a Wordpress account too btw so that's not it...) I thought I would put this up. I get this question FREQUENTLY myself. It is INDEED where I started at but I've looked into the other options. So far, nothing has moved to the point that I want to move and much like everything other 'fad' in Life, I don't 'move' just 'cause everyone else does. In addition, my main goal is for you to get what I post in some format. As long as you get to read my words when I do write them, I am GOOD. I also don't think my theme looks too bad. (Or any of the past themes I choice..@ the Facebook one before Facebook REALLY TOOK OFF, THE ORIGINAL BLACKBERRY THEME I HAD.... etc, etc..) Anyway...take a look at the reason.

Despite the power and popularity of WordPress amongst the blogging elite (at least upon the Techmeme Leaderboard), Blogger still remains the dominant blogging platform in the world, with the glorious WP coming in at a distant second.
Some in the WordPress faith may wonder why anyone would consider using Blogger, especially since WordPress boasts thousands (or is it tens of thousands?) of plugins, themes and developers–not to mention awesome smartphone apps upon the iPhone, Blackberry and Google’s very own Android OS.
However upon closer examination, BlogSpot fans may not be as “delusional” as some geeks may think for choosing Google over Automattic, as there are at least 5 major advantages of using Blogger instead of WordPress–both WP.com and WP.org.

1) Problogging On Your Domain
No matter how you slice it or dice it, Blogger is just far cheaper when it comes to blogging underneath your custom domain.
Backed by the mighty Google, Blogger is free when it comes to hooking up your domain. WordPress charges you $10 per domain (and that is on top of what you pay for registering your domain elsewhere).
While this may seem like a small price to pay, the bill can add up quickly if you own 5 or 6 domains.

2) Image Hosting
When it comes to default image hosting, WordPress beats Blogger 3 times over (as the former offers 3 gigabytes of default space vs Google’s 1 gigabyte).
However when it comes to upgrading to the next level on both accounts, Blogger destroy’s WordPress by offering users 20 GB of space for $5/year while WP.com offers users 5GB of space for about $20/year (note: the options become worse for us WP fans the higher up we go).

3) Video Hosting
If image hosting wasn’t bad enough, the video options alone will make one weep when you consider that WordPress charges users $60/year to use VideoPress–a fee that does not include any extra space.
BlogSpot fans on the other hand are offered video uploading for free (thanks to Google Video), with no limits on space.
4) Themes: Free for thee, but not for me?!
Despite Blogger’s popularity, WordPress (to my knowledge) still has more custom themes than its Google rival. However a new trend that I am noticing is that many premium WordPress themes are available for FREE (or very cheap) on Blogger.
One example (out of many) would be a premium WordPress theme called Church is available for $60 for WP fans. BlogSpot lovers however can get the same exact theme for free.
In fact there are many sites out there (like WordPress To Blogger) that convert premium WordPress themes to Blogger for free or very inexpensive prices (note: I am not sure how legal these businesses are, but thus far they seem to have faced little action against the original creators).
5) Security
This last point is probably debatable, but lets just face the facts: Google has one of the most secure platforms in the world.
Although WordPress.com and many hosting companies (such as Media Temple, Host Monster and GoDaddy) provide excellent security for their customers, the fact that Google can take on foreign hackers from semi-hostile nations speaks volumes about how tough their defenses are.
So is Blogger better than WordPress?
Answer: That depends on who you ask. ;-)

(Words) Screenshots and the definition/usage of the term 'thirst'...

Pretty sure you have seen these if you are on the Internet. For some of you, this is ABSOLUTELY a foreign concept for you until you got an iPhone and thus you think this is a 'new' thing. I believe there is a site dedicated to it at this point but don't quote me.  It isn't new though trust me. If you have been around on the Internet and been in ANY TYPE OF FORUM, the 'screenshot' has been been providing fodder for outing folks since it was invented. I've seen it spark off all types of shit. Folks addresses. Phone numbers. Nudes while camming. You name it. Again, I know some of you have your 'heroes' that will tell you they 'invented' it. No. Trust me. They didn't. Just want to be clear of that.

So I HIGHLY SUGGEST that you do not underestimate who you are talking to when it comes to 'speaking on the Internet'. Folks aren't SHIT OUT HERE in these Internet streets. Folks take it REALLY FAR for that "LOL" or to prove a point.

As you can SEE, IT ISN'T JUST AN 'IPHONE' THING. That is a Android in the first shot but like I said it isn't just a 'phone' thing either.. It is VERY easy to do from a computer/laptop. This was done by YOURS TRULY in response to some mud flung my way. Naw...I don't fuck around. Sorry in advance.

Exhibit A...
 http://thewarehous.blogspot.com/2012/01/words-how-not-to-be-boyfriendmanwhateve.html

You thought I was going to tell you not to screen shot, DIDN'T YOU? Admit it... Nope. I did it. I can't tell you not to. I can tell you to do it responsibly but that's really about it. Understand that you aren't the only one who can do it is all and DEFINITELY don't think you and your lil 'crew' have the 'patent' on it. You don't. My crew doesn't either but I can DEFINITELY tell you we know HOW TO GET IT DONE. Trust me. So no....just a 'be careful out here' for some of you (fellas especially but everyone..). Folks will 'screen shot you in the name of slander and think nothing of it. What I want to talk about is this...

...the 'definition of thirst..' according to you folks out here.

Make no mistake about it. The top screen caps are DEFINITIVE examples of what I would consider 'thirst'.(If I HAVE to use that word)

The problem for me with ya'lls use of the word is that I've seen it thrown around in SO MANY CONTEXTS that at this point the definition is about as clear as mud. ANY INTEREST in a person is seen as thirst and once again, in the most niggerish of ways, you guys have managed to malign a perfectly good saying. It HAS A PLACE!  Again, the examples up top the EXTREME and I would agree that they ARE thirst but some of the other stuff you guys are out here calling thirst? No. Here's an example:

"She looks good and she seems like a cool chick..."

THAT IS NOT THIRST FOLKS. Another one....

"I think he is a great Dad and a good looking dude..... "

Not thirst. But yet you dusty ass negroes START APPLYING THE WORD Just 'cause you LIKE THE PERSON the compliments are directed to DOESN'T MAKE THE PERSON GIVING THEM THIRSTY. Ya'll have to stop calling every thing (or the amount of 'comments') thirst. Get a set of nuts/ovaries and go on ahead and holler at your 'secret' boo and stop getting mad at those who are passing compliments to 'em. I won't use the 'h' word as I don't like to throw that overused shit around either but you sound type bitter out here getting 'excited' to point out a person's 'thirst'.

Not everybody is an introverted 'lil kid' inside fam. Some folks EXPRESS their feelings without fear. Get over your insecurities and let folks live out here. 'Cause that is where all this shit is coming from. I know it. Your own little fears and whatnot. (Technology) Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak on the iPhone: “I wish it did all the things my Android does”

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak may have waited in line for the release of new iPhones, but he says there are ways Android has leaped ahead of iPhone. In an interview with Dan Lyons for the Daily Beast comparing iPhones with Android phones, the Woz laments the limitations of Apple's smartphone. "My primary phone is the iPhone," the Woz said. "I love the beauty of it. But I wish it did all the things my Android does, I really do." However, don't get the idea that Woz is getting ready to dump the iPhone. He said his main beef is with Siri, which he said no longer works as well as he would like. "I used to ask Siri, 'What are the five biggest lakes in California?' and it would come back with the answer," he said. "Now it just misses. It gives me real estate listings. I used to ask, 'What are the prime numbers greater than 87?' and it would answer. Now instead of getting prime numbers, I get listings for prime rib, or prime real estate." He also said he prefers the GPS navigation on Android phones and he also takes issue with the battery life on the iPhone ("it just started running through the battery so fast"). Despite those gripes, Woz says he still recommends the iPhone, especially for people who might be intimidated by Android's complexity. "The people I recommend the iPhone 4S for are the ones who are already in the Mac world, because it's so compatible, and people who are just scared of computers altogether and don't want to use them. The iPhone is the least frightening thing. For that kind of person who is scared of complexity, well, here's a phone that is simple to use and does what you need it to do," he said.

Good one! @Verizon Confirmed: Verizon Charging $2 Fee for Paying Bills Online

Confirmed: Verizon Charging $2 Fee for Paying Bills Online

Go paperless. Save the environment. Save money. Oh wait, we are gonna charge you a 'measly'$2 for that. You can afford that right. $24 dollars a year to pay your bill on your phone OR ONLINE... Now you have to ask yourself the critical question:

Do I walk to the Verizon store (IF IT IS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE) to avoid this $2 charge (which lets face it...eventually they are gonna charge you for that TOO.) OR do I just bite the bullet and pay online to avoid using up $2 worth of gas to do it?

Pretty slick Verizon! (Sarcasm) You have been paying attention to your banking counterparts eh?

Verizon customers who make single payments by phone or online will be charged a $2 fee per payment starting January 15. The new fee is intended to offset the cost of processing these payments.

“The fee will help allow us to continue to support these single bill payment options in these channels,” Verizon said in a statement to Mashable.

Other Verizon payment options such as electronic check, AutoPay and payment kiosks are still free.

Customer representatives for Sprint and AT&T said that those companies charge no similar additional fee for paying by phone or online. The AT&T representative said there is, however, a fee for paying a bill through a customer service representative by phone.

Will Verizon’s $2 fee affect you? If so, will it motivate you to choose an alternate payment option, or do you find single payments by phone or Internet worth the extra couple of bucks? Let us know in the comments.

(Words) Video Games & The Woman Who Are Starting To Embrace 'Em..

This picture epitomizes the sentiments of some of the younger generation. I will say I still see the 'older' generation (including some dudes) who frown upon video game playing of any sort for any given amount of time. This younger generation though? Nope. The girls have picked up the sticks and started playing too. I'm not talking about just playing a 'girlie' game (although there are PLENTY OF GAMES GEARED TOWARDS WOMEN AND THEY DO PLAY THOSE TOO.) I'm talking about females playing Gears of War or Call of Duty. Hardcore playing. Having 'all day sessions'. Getting on the headsets and talking shit. Women who are ACTIVE IN THE MILITARY and can shoot a REAL GUN too, getting out that aggression or (gasps) just enjoying the simple pleasure a game like that can provide. Playing a lil Madden as well.

Do I think it is a good thing? I do actually. I mean lets face it, we all spend our 'free time' doing 'bullshit'. Some of us like to go to the club 'a lil too much'. Some of us don't go out but get ABSOLUTELY WHITE GIRL WASTED at home (or at someone else's house and then have to DRIVE HOME afterwards...). Some of us have JUST NOW DISCOVERED THE JOYS AND THE WAYS OF THE INTERNET thanks to the Cricket phone and other cheaper alternatives that allow folks who previously were not 'on the Internet' to have a Web presence. In other words, the vast majority of us aren't out here CURING CANCER OR SOME SHIT so who am I to stand in judgement of how you spend your free time in ANY CAPACITY as long as no one is dying or getting hurt physically or mentally? Do I play? Of course I do! I am a dude though so even though some 'snide' comments are made about the 'time I spend playing..', nothing I do goes lacking. I will say it has also kept me outta trouble MANY A DAY. So I don't see anything wrong with a woman offering encouragement for her man's video gaming activities by JOINING HIM with GREAT INTEREST. Not just to spite him or 'just because'. I mean REALLY JOINING HIM and playing. Hell, even kicking his ass in said video game. I don't see the issue at all.

Who knows, maybe the competitive juices might boil over into some 'extra curricular' activities. I'm willing to bet that the folks up top cut their gaming session short for another type of 'game'. Ya know what I mean? Ladies don't knock it.. Fellas don't you go getting all possessive about your games either. It may benefit you.

Why we must remember to delete – and forget – in the digital age | Technology | The Guardian

Why we must remember to delete – and forget – in the digital age | Technology | The Guardian

When Viktor Mayer-Schönberger's stepfather died, he left a collection of 16,000 heavy glass photographic slides, his visual record of decades travelling the world. His stepson had to decide what to do with them. "I had two rules in working out whether to keep a slide. One, if there was anybody in it I knew or might know. Two, if it was beautiful. Know how many I kept? 53."
  1. Delete: The Virtue of Forgetting in the Digital Age
  2. by Viktor Mayer-Schonberger
  3. Buy it from the Guardian bookshop
  1. Tell us what you think: Star-rate and review this book
His stepfather also kept a diary of his travels. Mayer-Schönberger doesn't expect to publish it any time soon. "The entries were so dull! What was the temperature, if the butter was good."
But maybe there was a point in his stepdad recording butter quality at some otherwise forgotten breakfast. In his book Delete: The Virtue of Forgetting in the Digital Age, Mayer-Schönberger, professor of internet governance and regulation at the University of Oxford's Internet Institute, writes: "Time is quite simply a very difficult dimension of human memory for humans to master."
Mayer-Schönberger says: "My stepfather's diary was probably incredibly meaningful for him because when he read some banal detail about butter, maybe that triggered the memory of the place for him. He externalised what was important for him, so he would have the cues he needed to remember something later."
In Delete, Mayer-Schönberger traces the history of such external memories – cave paintings, scrolls, photographic slides, diaries – and their importance to the flourishing of human knowledge. "Since the early days of humankind," he writes, "we have tried to remember, to preserve our knowledge, to hold on to our memories and we have devised numerous devices and mechanisms to aid us. Yet through millennia, forgetting has remained just a bit easier and cheaper than remembering."
No longer. Because of the digital revolution, he argues, it is easier to keep everything – the drunken email you sent your boss, the photo you put on Facebook in which you're doing something non-CV-enhancing to an inflatable cow – rather than go through the palaver of deciding what to consign to oblivion.
That's because so many of our external memories – digital pictures, emails – are now hardly as heavy as Mayer-Schönberger's stepfather's glass slides, but lighter than bees' wings. The overabundance of cheap storage on hard disks means that it is no longer economical to even decide whether to remember or forget. "Forgetting – the three seconds it takes to choose – has become too expensive for people to use," he writes. If Mayer-Schönberger's stepdad had taken digital photographs, his stepson wouldn't have had to bother thinking about which to delete.
But isn't it great that digital memories correct fallible human ones? "Many of my critics say that forgetting is a weakness of the human mind that we should be happy to get rid of. I agree we benefit from digital memories, but not if that means we lose the capacity to forget because that capacity is valuable."
The dream of overcoming human memory's fallibility was expressed by HG Wells when, in the 1930s, he wrote of a "world brain" through which "the whole human memory can be . . . made accessible to every individual". Today, perhaps we have that world brain, and it is called Google. Mayer-Schönberger sounds an Orwellian note about this: "Quite literally, Google knows more about us than we can remember ourselves."
His point is that a comprehensive memory is as much a curse as a boon. He cites the case of a 41-year-old Californian woman called AJ who, since she was 11, has remembered the events of her every day in agonising detail – what she had for breakfast three decades ago, what happened in each episode of every TV show she watched. That inability to forget, Mayer-Schönberger argues, limits one's decision-making ability and ability to form close links with people who remember less. "The effect may be stronger when caused by more comprehensive and easily accessible external digital memory. Too perfect a recall, even when it is benignly intended to aid our decision-making, may prompt us to become caught up in our memories, unable to leave our past behind."
And not being able to leave our past behind makes humans, he argues, more unforgiving in the digital age than ever before. In 2006, Vancouver-based psychotherapist Andrew Feldmar was crossing the Canada-US border to pick up a friend from Seattle airport – something he'd done many times before. This time, though, the border guard searched online and found that in 2001 Feldmar had written in an academic journal that he had taken LSD in the 1960s. As a result, Feldmar was barred entry to the US. "This case shows that because of digital technology, society's ability to forget has become suspended, replaced by perfect memory."
In the 19th century, Jeremy Bentham envisaged a prison called a panopticon in which guards could watch prisoners without them knowing whether they were being watched. In the 20th century, Michel Foucault argued that the model of the panopticon was used more abstractly to exercise control over society. In the 21st century, Mayer-Schönberger argues that the panopticon now extends across time and cyberspace, making us act as if we are watched even if we are not. He worries that this "perfect memory" will make us self-censor. "That's becoming standard. In the US most colleges have a mandatory class on how to clean up your Facebook account."
But isn't it good that digital technology encourages us to modify our behaviour? "Not necessarily. If you increase utility of storage, you risk collateral damage. In my home country of Austria, the DNA database keeps samples of everybody who left traces at a crime scene. It even means there are two classes of people – suspects and non-suspects and the class of suspects includes those who have been mugged or raped who have their DNA samples on the database."
Mayer-Schönberger took part in a radio phone-in recently. One caller related how her children's classmates found her image on a website publishing mugshots of convicts. "In the US, there are companies who buy up mugshots of prisoners and put them online – unless you pay $500 to take them down." Surely that's inimical to the spirit of the law whereby convictions become spent and offenders are rehabilitated? "It is inimical, but that's not a question that troubles their business model."
Suddenly this woman was punished again for an offence she had committed more than a decade ago and for which she had spent time in prison. Friends and neighbours treated her as a criminal, even though a day before they had entrusted their children to her care. Mayer-Schönberger writes in the new edition of Delete: "Digital memory, in reminding us of who she was more than 10 years ago, denied her the chance to evolve and change." This story, he argues, typifies how digital memory denies us the capacity to forgive.
Once lost, it's difficult to reconstruct. Germany's lawmakers tried prohibiting HR departments from Googling job applicants – thereby compelling institutional forgetting. "It was impossible to operationalise. They couldn't stop HR department workers Googling at home, for instance."
Mayer-Schönberger believes his book struck a chord. "Nine out of 10 Americans want the right to force websites and advertising companies to delete all stored information about them. And for US digital natives [those born after the introduction of digital technology] the figure is 84%."
Why is there such a concern? "People feel vulnerable online and don't trust organisations to protect their personal information. Google was clumsy in dealing with complaints about StreetView. Think of Facebook: it's in their DNA to keep information because they can monetise it."
He's intrigued by what Facebook does to human identity. "In the analogue era, it was relatively simple to keep your lives separate. If my main leisure pursuits were being in the golf club and in an S&M circle, it was essential that no one at the former knew about the latter. Facebook, by not allowing you to have two accounts, problematises that separation. The response is that individuals employ strategies to hack the system – almost all my colleagues have two Facebook accounts, to keep different parts of their lives boxed in."
What can be done to reverse the demise of forgetting? "I suggest we reset the balance and make forgetting just a tiny bit easier than remembering – just enough to flip the default back to where it has been for millennia, from remembering for ever to forgetting over time." He argues that digital storage devices (cameras, mobiles, computers) should automatically delete information that has reached its expiration date.
How? He suggests that users, when saving a document they have created, would have to select an expiration date in addition to the document's name and location on their hard disk. "Expiration dates are about asking humans to reflect – if only for a few moments – about how long the information they want to store may remain valuable."
This chimes with Harvard cyberlaw expert Jonathan Zittrain's idea that we should have a right to declare reputation bankruptcy – ie to have certain aspects of one's digital past erased from the digital memory. Such a right might have helped the woman caller to Mayer-Schönberger's phone-in.
Mayer-Schönberger envisages that each digital camera could have a built-in process to select expiration dates for a photo. Before taking a picture the camera would send out "picture requests" to what he calls "permission devices" (about the size of a key fob that, perhaps, might dangle from our necks) that respond to the request with the owner's preferred expiration date. That date could range from zero to three years to 100 years from now (an option reserved for really memorable pictures).
He concedes expiration dates are no overall solution to the problem, but what he likes about them is that they make us think about the value of forgetting and, also, that they involve negotiation rather than simply imposing a technical solution to a technical problem. There are alternatives, such as turning your back on the digital age. "I don't like digital abstinence. I want us to embrace participation in digital culture and global networks. Just not at any cost."
He argues that digital memory intrudes into our most intimate relationships. "Think of my old love letters. I hope they were destroyed or they're rotting in some attic. There's an implicit ethical agreement that they won't be used against me or published." In the digital age, such implicit ethical agreements are rendered obsolete. So much of our past is so readily retrievable in the digital age that we can't help but stumble across things we'd do better to forget. In Delete, he imagines a sad little story of two friends meeting after not seeing each other for years. John and Jane arrange to go for coffee at an old haunt to reminisce. But Jane can't quite remember the name of the cafe. So she has a brainwave – she'll check through her old emails to John. As she looks for the cafe address, she stumbles across an exchange with him that poisons her attitude to him. Instead of forgiving and forgetting, she is overwhelmed with old resentment and, quite possibly, won't turn up for that coffee.
Our digital footprints, that's to say, can trip us up later on – unless we self-censor assiduously. Given that, what information is Viktor Mayer-Schönberger prepared to disclose to me about himself – given it will be Googlable for the forseeable? He tells me he was born in a small Austrian alpine resort called Zell am See 45 years ago. Little Viktor started computer programming when he was 12, invented a new computer language aged 14, and before he was out of his teens had won awards at the International Physics Olympics and the Austrian Young Programmers Contest. Aged 18 he started a data security company called Ikarus Software.
He sold Ikarus at 26, amassed degrees from Salzburg, Cambridge, Harvard and the LSE. He worked for his father's tax law practice, then spent 10 years on the faculty of Harvard's John F Kennedy school of government. Last October, he took up his Oxford appointment. He has John Lennon glasses, and sounds – thanks to all those Stateside years – like Steve Buscemi. He has a wife and one child and hopes that this information will never be used against him. But, given how little we know about the future, who knows if that will happen?
When we finish this interview the professor did not activate a permission device to change preset expiration dates for the online version of this article, which was kind of him. In future, journalism may well not be like that.
"One thing that's pleased me since I've been working in this area is some online services have implemented expiration dates for information." Among them was drop.io, which offered private file sharing with expiration dates – and was bought up by Facebook last year. Google also now has a facility to set dates after which a web page will no longer be included in its search results displayed to users. He is heartened too by the tendency to encourage digital users to set privacy settings. "When Apple launched iCloud , it allowed you to sync privacy setting across devices – that's incredibly nifty."
Mayer-Schönberger is now researching what he calls "institutions of remembering". "We set up institutions of memory to help us remember important things – such as the Holocaust, for example. But with Google and Flickr and other sites offering seemingly comprehensive memory, we might be prompted to devalue these established institutions of memory. They risk being drowned out by stuff online. My fear is that the digital age, while benefiting us enormously, impoverishes us too."
Delete: The Virtue of Forgetting in the Digital Age is published in paperback on 25 July by Princeton University Press, £12.50.

BlackBerry London… Is this the first sighting of BBX running on a BlackBerry? — RIMarkable

BlackBerry London… Is this the first sighting of BBX running on a BlackBerry? — RIMarkable

Now I no longer own a Blackberry but I know some folks who do who will relish this news... After rumor after rumor....here's a look at the phone itself.

Here is a lil bit about it....

The BlackBerry London is supposedly thinner than an iPhone 4s and is equipped with a TI OMAP dual-core CPU clocked to 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of onboard storage, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
