Wizkid, Banky W, in HIV Drama


Nigerian sensational artistes, Wizkid and Banky W are shining bright in the second series of MTV TV drama, SHUGA: Love, Sex and Money.

The Kenyan based series focuses on the ills of a society living with HIV. The series premiered in Lagos on Friday, March 17, 2012 at the Silverbird Galleria in Victoria Island, Lagos, and is already being aired on DSTV channel 322 on Tuesdays at 20: 30 WAT/ 22:30 EAT).

‘Shuga’ is a 6 part drama series created by music and youth channel MTV Base that focuses on the behaviour of a group of young people. Set in Kenya, Shuga: Love Sex and Money continues and expands the stories and theme that began in Shuga series 1; which premiered around the world in 2009. The main theme of the series is that of male sexuality, transactional sex, hangouts, and relationships.

The story line promotes messages about the importance of HIV screening, stigma reduction, use of condoms and gender inequity.

Banky W and protégé Wizkid who are great youth influencers on the continent, played themselves in the series, while Kenyan-based Nigerian musician Emmanuel Ikubese; popularly known as 9con played the character Femi. The series’ soundtrack was also written and produced by the duo of Wizkid and Banky W.
